Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a common genetic disease that typically presents in the first year or two of life, and more commonly now during newborn genetic screening. The defect is in a single chloride channel called CFTR that affects salt and water balance. CF affects multiple organs including the lung, GI tract, sinuses, pancreas, liver, and reproductive tract. Thanks to aggressive medical care and new treatments, the average life expectancy continues to increase, and is currently 38 years old, with patients occasionally even living into their seventies.
Ryan Dougherty, MD is director and Vinayak Jha, MD is associate director of California Pacific Medical Center’s Adult CF Center, which has been accredited by the CF Foundation since 2006. We have a comprehensive team of dedicated clinical experts. We are an affiliate program of Stanford Medical Center and accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Our major focus is in providing quality care according to the CF Foundation’s latest guidelines and staying at the cutting edge, offering the latest therapies and opportunities to participate in clinical research studies through the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI).
